Poster session at Sherwood 2025
This year's organizing committee: Dr. Fatima Ebrahimi, Prof. Elizabeth Paul and Prof. Evdokiya Kostadinova
Professor Elizabeth Paul's research group participated in the Sherwood 2025 conference, presenting the group's research and serving as co-hosts for this year's event held in Manhattan from April 7-9, 2025. The conference brought together leading researchers in plasma magnetic confinement research and private fusion enterprises.
Research Presentations
The group contributed multiple presentations to this year's program, including Professor Paul's presentation of her recent work on shear Alfven continuum optimization in stellarators.
Graduate Student Contributions
Alexa Lachmann shared her numerical analysis of ion drift orbit stochasticity using weighted Birkhoff averaging methods. Abdullah Hyder presented his comprehensive computational studies of stellarator continua across various magnetic configurations. Amelia Chambliss discussed her investigation of trapped ion losses resulting from quasi-symmetry breaking field perturbations.
Postdoctoral Research
Dr. Antoine Baillod presented his work on coil optimization strategies for enhanced chamber accessibility. Dr. Alexey Knyazev presented his research on shear Alfvén wave activity in optimized stellarators and their role in prompt ion losses.
Columbia Fusion Center Announcement
As part of the conference proceedings, the Paul group participated in the official announcement of the new Columbia Fusion Center on the Morningside Campus. The group also provided updates on the progress of the Columbia Stellarator eXperiment (CSX).
